To support our customers in developing and implementing creative solutions for their biggest challenges, we are now looking for customer-facing engineers who can deliver Varnish projects remotely or onsite.
About the Role
As a Solutions Engineer at Varnish, you will:
Become a Varnish technical specialist and trusted expert
Collaborate with Sales teams to identify, qualify, and align customer technical needs with Varnish business solutions
Increase win rates in technically complex sales cycles
Deliver tailored implementation projects, including onboarding, monitoring, high availability, integration, and development
Travel frequently to meet and work with customers—including some of the largest and most recognized brands in their markets—with flexibility based on location and project needs
Work directly with Engineering teams to develop solutions that address emerging trends
Play a key role in shaping the technical and architectural decisions of our customers
The ideal teammate will have the following:
Over 5 years of relevant experience building and operating distributed systems, with hands-on expertise in CDN and caching solutions.
Strong Linux or Unix background, preferably in a hyperscale, or telco environment
Deep understanding of HTTP, APIs, request/response flows
Caching strategies (TTL, invalidation, consistency) and CDN setups
Proven experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as Solutions Engineering, Technical Account Management, Technical Support, or Pre-Sales, where explaining technical concepts and architectural trade-offs was part of the job
Experience using at least one scripting language (ie. js, Bash, python, lua)
A superb communication skill set is desired, with an ability to convey Varnish’s technical capabilities (written/spoken) to both business and technical decision makers.
Adaptable to new technological trends
Fluent in both written and spoken English
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of professional experience building and operating distributed systems in production, such as high-traffic web platforms, APIs, CDNs, or similar environments (or equivalent practical expertise).
Hands-on experience with caching, CDN technologies, or traffic-heavy web infrastructure, including understanding of performance, availability, and scaling considerations.
Strong Linux/Unix experience in production environments (installation, troubleshooting, monitoring, performance tuning).
It’s a bonus (but not a requirement) if you have experience with:
Hands-on experience with Varnish Cache and/or VCL
Knowledge of web, HTTP, or API security concepts, such as WAF or WAAP
German language skills (helpful for supporting some customers, but not required to be successful in the role)
Commercial awareness or experience supporting technically complex sales cycles
Prior experience working closely with R&D or product teams on customer-driven improvements
